SAG-AFTRA Ends Strike With Historic Win

On Wednesday November 8, 2023, the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Radio Artists (“SAG-AFTRA”) announced that it had reached a tentative deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (“AMPTP”), ending a four-month strike.

The union stated that the deal includes increases in minimum salaries, a “streaming participation bonus” and protections against artificial intelligence. Those protections include specific provisions governing the use of digital images of actors, with their prior informed consent, along with additional compensation for such uses. Studios must also obtain the approval of a deceased performer’s representatives before using their image or likeness.
