Our firm’s contemporary Washington, DC office serves as the hub for our global legal services. Designing our new office space gave us the opportunity to reflect through art, highlights from the firm’s history in our public spaces.
During the 1980s, in a precursor to the Age of AI, Arnie counseled legendary movie directors and actors (including Jimmy Stewart, Martin Scorsese, George Lucas and Steven Spielberg) in their challenge to the colorization of classic black and white movies. This work led to the creation of the National Film Registry (and its annual naming of 25 classic films worthy of recognition). A collection of black and white photos by Lisa Berg related to Arnie’s work for the Directors Guild of America tell this story and highlight our longstanding commitment to protecting the rights of creators in the face of new technologies.

Janet is not only an experienced intellectual property lawyer, but is also a news and fine arts photographer. Her stunning photo “Pathways at Dumbarton Oaks Park” dates from 1988.
Arnie and Susan’s personal love of art led to their organizing “Palace of Gold & Light,” a major U.S. touring exhibition of treasures of the Ottoman Empire. These photographs represent behind-the-scenes preparation for the opening of the exhibit at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, DC in 2000. Arnie was also an organizer of a U.S. touring exhibition from the Kremlin’s Diamond Fund in 1996.

An original sketch by courtroom artist Dana Verkouteren shows Arnie presenting a group of lawyers from INBLF, Independent Network of Boutique and Independent Law Firms, for admission to the Supreme Court Bar. The drawing was a thank you gift from the group.
This stainless steel sculpture entitled “Waves” in the reception area by Alexandria, Virginia artist Christopher Erney is reflective of the Lutzkers’ personal commitment to supporting local artists and the firm’s commitment to helping creators in all media protect their intellectual property.
A series of sketches are by local artist Elena Zlotescu. Arnie and Susan met Elena, a costume and scene designer for the National Theater of Bucharest, and her family when they first emigrated from Romania and settled in the DC area. Susan and Arnie helped Elena establish an art business along with her work as a costume and scene designer.
B.K. Adams, whose six-foot sculpture “Family” stands in our conference room, is a nationally recognized sculptor and painter working in Washington, DC and New York. His sculpture “Blue Horse” is on permanent display at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of African American History and Culture.
Arnie and Susan acquired “Sheep” by Tel Aviv artist Menasche Kadishman from an art gallery in Safed, Israel. The painting incorporates sand from the beaches of Tel Aviv. Kadishman, who died in 2015, is internationally known and represented Israel in 1978 at the Venice Biennale. The artist created an installation entitled “Fallen Leaves,” consisting of 10,000 metal disks with faces, for the Jewish Museum in Berlin.
Throughout the office other photographs and posters reflect the firm’s representation of content creators in a variety of copyright infringement matters. For example, one of the posters was used without permission in an episode of the hit TV series Friends. The firm represented the copyright owner and successfully settled the matter.
And equally important, our private offices reflect the stories, both personal and professional, of our staff of legal professionals.
