I.P. Management Specialist Joins L&L
Lutzker & Lutzker is pleased to announce that Carolyn Wimbly Martin has joined the firm as of counsel.  Ms. Martin has more than 25 years experience as an intellectual property lawyer (including as assistant general counsel at Gannett Co., Inc.) and business executive developing intellectual properties that generate revenue and build brands.  She is an adjunct professor of Intellectual Property Management at American University's Washington College of Law.

Arnold Lutzker named Washington DC Superlawyer 2007
Arnold Lutzker has been named as a Washington DC Superlawyer 2007 in the field of Intellectual Property. The listing was based on polling of 35,000 active lawyers in the area, independent research and evaluation by Law & Politics magazine, and the evaluation of peers in the practice area. Only 5 percent of the total lawyers in the Washington DC metro area are included in this listing.

LAWIDJAJA v. WASHINGTON BLADE
The firm has filed suit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia on behalf of a prominent Washington DC photographer against the Washington Blade (a leading newspaper for the gay and lesbian community) and related companies Window Media LLC and Unite Media LLC for copyright infringement and breach of contract claims involving multiple unauthorized reproductions of his photographs in print and online. Thompson v. Vera Wang
The firm has filed suit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York against Vera Wang (V.E.W. Ltd.), Coty, Inc. and Laird & Partners, LLC on behalf of Mary Buck Thompson, a jewelry designer based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The complaint alleges copyright infringement, Lanham Act false designation of origin, and common law deceptive trade practices and unfair competition claims. The claims arise out of misuse of Ms. Thompson's images of her unique crown jewelry in Vera Wang's multimillion dollar advertising campaign for its Princess perfume (brief).

TTAB Proceeding: IVY LEAGUE v. IVY LEAGRO
We are defending the entitlement of Dr. Robert Gray, creator of IVY LEAGRO (www.ivyleagro.com), to federal trademark registration of a mark that critiques and parodies the Ivy League and its history (brief).

Success in Italian Lawsuit
The moral rights litigation we have been supervising in Italian courts has resulted in an injunction and an award of 100,000 Euros in favor of the heir to legendary filmmaker Fred Zinnemann. Zinnemann's son claimed that his father's classic black-and-white film The Seventh Cross was materially altered in violation of his moral rights when a colorized version was aired on Italian television

IPO
Arnold Lutzker is chair of a trademark subcommittee of the Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO), www.ipo.org , which is focusing on initial interest confusion.
